Dillon and Silverthorne are the first moderately-sized, developed towns that you will encounter while heading west on I-70 from the front range; they act as the central hub for Summit County.
Located directly off I-70, they provide easy access to both the Denver area and all the surrounding towns. With an assortment of chain stores, restaurants, and hotels, this is the best location for a more suburban feeling in the mountains. However, don’t let that be off-putting. Dillon is still home to a small, historic square as well as the Dillon Marina – offering phenomenal sailing on the picturesque Lake Dillon.
Contrary to many of the surrounding towns, Dillon and Silverthorne really come to life in the summer. With their own concert series, farmers market, and assortment of hiking trails, this is a mecca for summertime recreation. There is 26 miles of shoreline located here, with hiking and biking trails meandering along the shore the entire way! The Dillon marina even offers sailing school and charter cruises! In the evenings, the tiki bar and assortment of local breweries provide a great way to relax after outdoor excursions!
